Zone Athletics

At 9:15am on the 5th of November the zone athletics at Hillmorton high school had begun. It was a blazing hot day and 14 schools were at the event.

The very first event started at 9:20am and Roche was the first to leave the group for high jump. After 10 minutes Roche came back with a placing of first equal with Wharenui. The next event was long jump and me, Roche and Clifford left the group. About seven people were in the event for the 13yr olds and the longest jump was 4.65 metres and OLA came first with Cashmere not far behind and Sacred Heart third with Roche jumping 4.55 metres.

Sadly for some people it was a three hour wait for their next event and sprints was the event. Clifford, Lance, Roche and I moved off to start. In the two heats Roche came first and I came third but in the final Roche came first and I came sixth. Jayda had an amazing day with discus and it was the first time she had done it and came first!

The last event of the day was long distance and I was the only person from Sacred Heart in it. After all the hard work in the other events the fatigue started to set in but once the finish line was in sight the adrenalin kicked in and I secured a placing of sixth.

The zone athletics was seen by many parents and children throughout the schools. Everyone enjoyed it and will always be looking forward to next year.
