Team Building At Vernon Farm Park 1/8/14

A beautiful, sunny Friday for room 7. Seventeen lucky people went on a challenging day out at Mt. Vernon Farm Park in St Martins. The trip was organised by Carol our Social Worker and we are very thankful that she did this for us.

Everyone was packed up and ready to go. We travelled there on a small bus. When we arrived there we played a few games to get us warmed up and moving, then we were on our way. We got split off into two groups

One group went hiking up the hills. The scenery was beautiful; you could see your own house from there. We had to communicate and listen as a group. On the way up, we had to support our group members, because it was a pretty hard job. When we got up there, there was a lot of wind and it started to get cold. One of the challenges was to make a shape with a rope. We were blindfolded, but we had two people guiding us through it. This helped our trust with one another.

The other activity was to help with our confidence was abseiling that is climbing down a cliff face. We had to trust our tutor with this one. We had a harness around us along with a helmet. Looking down the cliff was terrifying. Everybody looked anxious, but going down the cliff was the opposite. There were a lot of bumps and dips on the cliff face, but you could get through them fine. You had to keep your feet flat on the surface and your body back. With the support of your group, you could do it. It was really rewarding when you were down there, you wanted to do it a second time.

We were all tired out in the end, it was really worthwhile. I would recommend you ask your parents to take you up there, the scenery is beautiful and you'll probably have a great time.
